Senegal - Cissé: "It's important to remember the point we picked up away from home"

.
Held to a 0-0 draw by Togo on Matchday 2 of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, Lions coach Aliou Cissé reflected on his players' lengthy performance.

"The result? We have to remember the point we got away from home. We're in a championship, we started by winning at home (on the first day) and today we came up against a very good Togo team, who were highly motivated and fresher than us. All in all, it was a fairly even encounter and the result reflects the way the game went. I'd like to say it's satisfying (...) How did the players perform? My players gave their all and I'm pleased with their commitment. Now, it was a complicated match, with the heat and the stadium against us. As I said in the pre-match press conference, I don't think many teams are going to win here," declared the Senegalese coach.

He continued: "Togo haven't lost at home for two years, which says it all. Tactical problems? There was too much space between our defence, midfield and attack, although we managed to rectify this in the second half. The Togolese made the most of this space, especially their number 17, who distilled a lot of the ball by positioning himself in the gaps. In the second half, we were much more compact in recovering the ball and playing. Unfortunately we weren't able to score (...) We're top of the group with 4 points now we'll focus on the AFCON and then we'll have time to talk about the rest of these World Cup qualifiers."
