Taiwo Awoniyi underwent surgery after a groin injury. The Nigerian striker will, therefore, be out for several months, announced Nottingham Forest coach Steve Cooper.
"It's bad news for Taiwo (Awoniyi). He had to undergo surgery and will be out for months. We need to support him through the process of coming back stronger. He's already done it once here and I'm sure he'll give it his all again like he did last time," declared the Welsh coach.
The Super Eagle will therefore be out for the AFCON 2023 in Côte d'Ivoire. A major blow for him and the Nigerian national team. Awoniyi has made a fine start to the season, with 4 goals and 2 assists in 10 games.
Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi is expected to be out of action for “months” after having surgery on a groin injury.
