Football: African scorers in Europe

 

Having already scored twice in the Europa League three days earlier, Gabon's Aubameyang repeated the feat in Ligue 1 against Nantes (2-0). Guirassy, Aouar and a host of other Congolese players also put in fine performances.

In England (matchday 28), Burkina Faso's Django Ouattara scored his first goal of the season for Bournemouth (13th), held to a 2-2 draw by Sheffield United. Algeria's Rayan Aït Nouri scored in Wolverhampton's (8th) 2-1 win over Fulham (12th), who pulled a goal back through Nigeria's Alex Iwobi. Burnley (19th) drew at West Ham thanks to a goal from Ivorian David Fofana. Brentford (15th) lost at Arsenal (1-2) despite another goal from Congolese Yoane Wissa (DRC).

In Germany (matchday 25), Guinean Serhou Guirassy scored his 21st goal as VfB Stuttgart (3rd) beat Union Berlin 2-0.

In Spain (matchday 28), Real Sociedad (6th), more than ever in contention for European qualification, won (3-2) at Granada with a goal from Nigeria's Umar Sadiq.

In France, African players shone. In particular, Gabon's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored a decisive brace as Marseille (7th) beat Nantes 2-0. Ivorian Christopher Opéri helped Le Havre (12th) beat Toulouse (1-0). Reims (9th) drew well in Paris against PSG (2-2) thanks to Zimbabwean Marshall Munetsi and Ivorian Oumar Diakité. Lyon (10th) beat Lorient in Brittany (2-0) with a goal from Guinea-Bissau's Mama Baldé. Nice (5th) were dominated at home (1-2) by Montpellier despite a goal from Ivorian Jérémie Boga.

In Italy (matchday 28), AS Roma (5th) drew at Fiorentina (2-2), with a goal from Algerian Houssem Aouar.

In Belgium (matchday 29), Morocco's Anouar Aït El Hadji helped RC Genk (5th) to a 1-0 win over Standard Liège. Nigeria's George Ilenikhena was also decisive in Royal Antwerp's (3rd) victory at Kortrijk.

In the Netherlands (matchday 25), Feyenoord Rotterdam (2nd) comfortably beat Heracles Almelo (3-0), with a goal from Gambian Yankuba Minteh.

In Switzerland (matchday 27), Yverdon-les-Bains (8th) beat FC Zurich (4th) 3-2. Algeria's Aymen Mahious scored for the home side, and Nigeria's Ifeanyi Matthew for the Germans. Young Boys Berne (1st) crushed FC Basel (5-1), with Congolese (DRC) Meschack Elia scoring his 6th goal of the season. FC Lugano (3rd) won (3-2) in St. Gallen. Congolese (DRC) Chadrac Akolo scored for the home side and Tunisian Hadj Mahmoud for Ticino.

In Turkey (matchday 29), Trabzonspor (3rd) pulverized Fatih Karagümrük (5-1), with a goal from Ivorian Nicolas Pépé and another from Egyptian Mahmoud Hassan "Trezeguet". Ghanaian Jerome Poku helped Istanbul Basaksehir to a 1-0 win over Antalyaspor. Egyptian Hassan Mahjoub scored one of two goals for Alanyaspor (11th) at Sivasspor (2-1). Kasimpasa (5th) won 2-1 at Istanbulbulspor thanks to Cape Verdean Nuno Da Costa and Tunisian Morthada Ben Ouanes. Kayserispor (10th) were held at home by Hatayspoir (1-1) despite a goal from Moroccan Mehdi Bourabia.

In Luxembourg (matchday 20), Dudelange (2nd) overcame Mondorf-les-Bains (2-1) thanks to a brace from Moroccan Samir Hadi.

In Serbia (matchday 24), Red Star Belgrade (2nd) and Partizan Belgrade (1st) played out a 2-2 draw, with a goal from Senegalese Chérif Ndiaye for Red Star and one from Congolese (DRC) Aldo Kalulu for the leaders.

In Ukraine (20th day), Lassina Traoré was on target as Shakhtar Donetsk (1st) beat Kolos Kolalivka (3-2).
