AFCON 2025: Senegal will study the feasibility of a bid

Kalidou Koulibaly's Senegal hopes to bid for the 2025 AFCON.

The withdrawal of the organization of the 2025 AFCON to Guinea by the Confederation of African Football is causing a stir. Since the news became official, the contenders to recover the organization are climbing up the ladder. And if South Africa, Algeria or Morocco have expressed their interest, they could soon be joined by Senegal. Host of the AFCON only once, in 1992, the country of the recent African champions will study the feasibility of the project to apply.

"We have contacted the president of the Senegalese Football Federation to have the specifications and to make, with the services, an analysis of the situation. After, naturally, we will make a note to the highest authority of the country, which will appreciate, "said the newly appointed Minister of Sports, Yankhoba Diatara to The Observer.

For the moment, and pending the rehabilitation of some venues, Senegal has only two stadiums capable of meeting the specifications of CAF, which requires a minimum of six. The idea of a joint bid with a neighboring country would not be excluded as well.

After winning their first continental title in January 2022, in Cameroon, the Terranga Lions should feel motivated enough to host the 2025 edition on home soil and make a straight attempt for their second star on their jerseys.
