Handball African Women’s Championship sees shake up as Cameroon edge Senegal to top of Group A
The Battle of Lionesses between Senegal and Cameroon kept all its promises of excitement on Monday at the Dakar Arena.
The two teams that were fighting for the first place of the pool delivered a scintillating spectacle.
Cameroon, vice-champions of Africa started the game better by leading with the score of 8-5 after ten minutes of play.
Very aggressive in defense, Cameroon went go to the break with a two-goal lead (18-16) .
In the second half, Doungou Camara and teammates returned to the field with more determination. With star player – Soukeyna Sagna in great shape, Senegal managed to come back up on level terms (20-20).
But Cameroon remained effective up top. Despite some last minutes sharpness from Senegal, notably Doungou Camara, Cameroon finally had the last laugh by winning on the edge (28-27). Despite the defeat, Senegal qualified for the quarter-finals, while Cameroon sailed through as top of the group.
