CHAN 2023: Draws to determine pools made in Algeria

CAF proceeded this Saturday, October 1 to the draw for the 7th edition of CHAN, scheduled for 2023 in Algeria. The Fennecs share the same group as their neighbor Libya, winner in 2014. The tightest group remains C with Morocco, Sudan and Ghana.

Saturday morning, Algeria made official its bid for the organization of the AFCON 2025, now withdrawn from Guinea. In the afternoon, CAF proceeded to the draw for the CHAN 2022, which will be held in Algeria in January-February 2023. This competition could also serve as a test for the Algerians. In the meantime, the nations that will compete in the 7th edition of CHAN are already fixed on their fate.

Algeria, the host country of the competition, is in Group A. The Fennecs will face Libya, winner in 2014. They also inherit Ethiopia and Mozambique who have already recorded three and two participations. The group of Morocco is on the other hand more difficult. The Atlas Lions, two-time defending champions, are in the same group as Sudan on the podium in 2011 and 2018, Ghana double finalist (2009 and 2014) and Madagascar whose first participation.

Group B is also tight. The DR Congo who won the first edition of the competition in Côte d'Ivoire 2009 and that of 2016 in Rwanda is in the company of Senegal, Uganda and Côte d'Ivoire.

In the three pools of four, two tickets will be at stake for a qualification to the quarterfinals. For pools D and E, which have only three nations, it will be necessary to take the first place to qualify in the top 8.

The groups of the CHAN 2022
Group A: Algeria, Libya, Ethiopia, Mozambique

Group B: DR Congo, Ivory Coast, Uganda, Senegal

Group C: Morocco, Sudan, Ghana, Madagascar
