Ghana Women's Football double champions, Ampem Darkoa ladies will face clubs from Burkina Faso, Togo and Nigeria at the group stages as they begin their quest for a place in the second edition of the 2022 TotalEnergies CAF Women's Champions League.
At the draw for the West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Zone B tournament, the 2022 Ghana Women Premier League (GWPL) and FA Cup champions were drawn against Nigeria’s Bayelsa Queens FC, USFA from Burkina Faso and Athleta FC from Togo in Group B.
Group A will have AS D'abidjan from Cote d’Ivoire, AS Police of Niger and Espor FC from Togo.
Ampem Darkoa ladies secured the Ghana Women's Premier League and sealed their first domestic double for 13 years with a 1-0 victory over defending champions Hassacas ladies.
In an exclusive interview with the Head Coach of Ampem Darkoa ladies Joe Nana Darkwah on the draw, he tipped his side to come out victors.
"Our group is very tough looking at all instances but with the indepth squad at our disposure, we will do our best and wave the flag of Ghana high as always. Hassacas ladies have set the precedent when it comes to women's football in Africa as we promise to do same when the tournament starts come next month"
Former Ghana champions Hasaacas Ladies won the 2021 edition of WAFU B qualifying tournament and went on to finish as runners-up in the inaugural continental showpiece in Egypt.
"Our target is to win the WAFU edition and qualify us for the African version where the challenge will be bigger and stronger." he added.
Per the calendar of WAFU Zone B, the Women’s Champions League qualifiers will start next month in Abidjan from 13th to 26th August,2022.
