The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has appointed a new coach for the Uganda Beach Soccer Team, Sand Cranes.
Moses Magogo, the Federation President, says the former Switzerland national player and coach Angelo Schrinzi is the new coach who will now take charge of the team.
"We are aware there has been a technical team in place, they will now work under the Head Coach. This is an opportunity for them to learn and get better,” said Magogo.
The Federation President made it clear that as Uganda their aspiration is to have teams compete and win. “We are looking after 10 national teams and the Sand Cranes is one of them,” he added.
Schrinzi, who arrived last Friday, is expected to start work immediately and will lead the Uganda Sand Cranes.
The Ugandan team will take part in the 2022 COSAFA Beach Soccer Championship to take place in South Africa later this month and the Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2022 slated for October 21-28th in Maputo Mozambique.
Schrinzi says that he has come to Uganda to improve the team and also help the coaches get better.
“We want to work hard and make sure the team is ready to compete at the highest level,” added the new coach.
Besides Uganda, the other nations that qualified to play at the Beach Soccer AFCON 2022 include hosts Mozambique, Malawi, Nigeria, Morocco, Madagascar, Egypt and defending champions Senegal.
