Boston Marathon: Edna Kiplagat takes back the victory

Suspended for six years for doping, Diana Chemtai Kipyokei has been stripped of her title earned at the 2021 Boston Marathon. The victory goes to another Kenyan, Edna Kiplagat. The 43-year-old marathoner is officially the new Boston Marathon champion. The two-time 42, 196 km champion announced the news on her social networks.

"This is a great gift that has finally been bestowed upon me after such a long wait," Kiplagat, 43, enthused on Twitter. "I am grateful that the 2021 results are officially published," she continued praising the implementation of "strict anti-doping measures to ensure fair compensation and clean sport."

This year, Edna Kiplagat finished fourth in the Boston Marathon with a time of 2:21:40, the best time in history for a woman over 40. Double world champion in 2011 and 2013, the mother of five children has shone in the biggest marathons: London, Los Angeles, New York ... She won everything. Only one Olympic medal is missing from her rich record. And the 2017 Boston Marathon winner is not done writing her story on the roads yet. She has been invited to take part in the 2023 edition of the Boston Marathon.
