CAF Champions League: Great start for some big guns

The first day of the group stage of the CAF Champions League started on Friday and continued on Saturday, February 11. In Group C, Horoya AC hosted the Tanzanian Simba Sports Club. The Guineans won 1-0. It was Pope Abdou Ndiaye who put Horoya on the right track. The Senegalese striker scored the only goal of the game in the 18th minute.

On the other hand, Esperance Tunis hosted Al Merreikh from Sudan in Pool D. Despite a constant domination (75% possession, 16 shots ...), the Tunisians had all the trouble in the world before winning 1-0. It was Mohamed Amin Tougaï who delivered his team in the 94th minute of play. This Friday, in the same group, RC Belouizdad went to Zamalek and won 1-0. The Cameroonian Leonel Wamba scored in the 56th minute, on a penalty. Thanks to this precious success, the Algerians are in the lead with Esperance.

Sundowns start well
The group B of the CAF Champions League opened hostilities on Saturday. The South Africans of Mamelodi Sundowns hosted and beat Al Hilal of Sudan 1-0. The only goal of the game was scored by Cassius Mailula in the 25th minute. While in Group A, Petro Luanda could not win. The Angolans drew 0-0 at home against the Algerian side JS Kabylie. The other match of this group will take place on Friday, February 17. It will pit Wydad, the defending champion and the Congolese AS Vita Club.
