CAF Champions League: Journey to succeed Wydad now open

The CAF Champions League edition 2022-2023 will be launched from this Friday, February 10. Two matches are scheduled until the continuation, Saturday, February 11. Al Ahly, ten times winner of the competition, and the defending champion Wydad, who were engaged in the Club World Cup, will be in competition from the second day.

The CAF Champions League trophy will be up for grabs starting this Friday, February 10. Wydad has been married for months to Dame Coupe. The contenders are numerous but only the most enduring, will end up lifting the trophy.

Zamalek-CR Belouizdad or a sulfurous "Egypt against Algeria
The kick-off of the CAF Champions League, this Friday, could not start better. The poster between Zamalek (Egypt) and CR Belouizdad (Algeria) is succulent. We know the rivalries between Egyptians and Algerians. Especially that this year sounds like a redemption operation for Zamalek which was lamentable in the last edition. The Egyptian giant had not crossed the group matches. Zamalek (4 points, no win) had finished in 3rd place behind Wydad and Petro Atlético.

This season, the team of President Mansour wants to redeem itself. Only, its first opponent is difficult to maneuver. Defending champion of the Algerian League 1, CR Belouizdad was eliminated in the quarterfinals last season by Wydad. The Algerians hope to do better this year.

The other match of the group will oppose Esperance Tunis to Al Merreikh of Sudan, Saturday, February 11. The Tunisians had stalled in the quarter before ES Setif. While the Sudanese had not managed to get out of their group A.

Al Ahly, Wydad not scheduled because of their participation in the World Club Championship, the entry of the "Big" is expected for the 2nd day. This day of the CAF Champions League which opens this Friday offers however beautiful duels as Petro Luanda which receives JS Kabylie, Saturday, February 11. The Petro had played the semi-finals of the previous edition. The Angolans were eliminated at this stage of the tournament by the future winner Wydad (1-1, 1-3). In this group A are also the defending champion Wydad and AS V.Club.

In Group C, Raja Casablanca hosts this Friday the Ugandan Vipers Sports Club. The Rajaouis had stopped in the quarterfinals last year, exited by A Ahly (2-1, 1-1). Horoya of Guinea and Simba Sport of Tanzania are also in this group. Moreover, the Guineans receive the Tanzanians, this Saturday, February 11.
