The lone away win in the CAF Champions League quarter finals first leg games played this Saturday across Africa was recorded in Algeria as home side CR Bélouizdad fell to visitors Wydad by 1-0.
The home side got two early opportunities testing the Wydad keeper from long range. Wydad's first chance came on the other end of the field when Mbenza's over stretched header tested the CR Bélouizdad defense vigilance. The header went slightly off target.
A third long range effort from the home side proved the intentions of the Algerians but this unlike the previous two did not really bother the Wydad keeper. The game was goalless at the break.
After 19 seconds into the second half, Congolese International Guy Mbenza finished off with another header. This time the ball found the back of the net from a curled right back cross.
CR Bélouizdad came knocking, cross after cross but their last action was usually influenced by the urge to get a goal, leading to some unforced errors and precipitation.
They were just inefficient in front of goal and even hit the upright in the last minute of play. The end results were in favor of the visitors who take a huge advantage into the second leg game build for next week in Casablanca, Morocco.
