CAF Confederation Cup: Young Africans’ win against TP Mazembe excites Coach Nabi

Young Africans SC picked their first points when they defeated DR Congo’s TP Mazembe 3-1 in a Group D match of the 2022/2023 TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup played on Sunday in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Zambian international Kennedy Musonda gave the home side the lead after 7 minutes, and Mudathir Yahya doubled the lead four minutes later at the well attended match at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.

In the second half the DR Congo giants returned to dictate the pace of the match, but still found the Young Africans defending line up to the task.

Alex Ngonga pulled a goal back for TP Mazembe with a well taken free kick that beat Young Africans’s goalkeeper Diarra. But the home side continued to push forward and made it 3-1 with substitute Kisinda scoring after the 90 minutes.

Nasreddine Nabi, the Young Africans SC coach says this win excites him because his team played really well according to plan.

“We lost our first match last week in Tunisia and needed to bounce back. I Am happy that the players did what they were expected to do and the fans gave 100%,” added Nabi.

The Young Africans coach made it clear that they will have to keep working hard to put up good performances to win matches. “We have another away match against Real Bamako and must be at our best,” added coach Nabi.

The win sends Young Africans SC to third place on the log in Group D below TP Mazembe who have the same number of points. Tunisia’s Monastir who beat Young Africans SC 2-0 in the opening match last week and drew 1-1 away to Real Bamako on Sunday lead the group with 4 points.

The Young Africans team will also earn US$2150 for each of the goals they scored courtesy of the President of the Republic of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan.
