Cameroon - Elite One: Match Day 1 Roundup

The MTN Elite One Championship kick-started on Saturday October 15, with the first round of games this season, after Cotonsport of Garoua won its 17th trophy at the end of last season.

A group B game acted as the opener as Astres of Douala shared the spoils (1-1) in a local derby against Union Sportif of Douala. Astres scored first through Armand Kooh at the 10th minute, but Union cancelled that out courtesy Joel Paten's strike at the 20th minute.

Still in group B, Yong Sports Academy lost on the road, away to Bamboutos FC through a 2-1 margin. Patrice Enjenguele and William Ekanga netted at the 28th and 63rd minutes respectively, with Yong Sports only able to get a consolation through Ngwa Acha at the 80th minute as it ended 2-1 in favour of the hosts, who appear to be fairing pretty well after their Cameroon Cup defeat to Cotonsport.

Calice D'or's 20th minute strike was enough to take away a point from Dragon FC who fought from one down to get a 70th minute equalizer, via Chris Ebeny Beko. Newcomers Gazelle are no pushovers and a point for them turned out to be historic, as it is their first ever point in the top flight.

AS Fortuna led Fovu after 28 minutes, when Ako Assomo scored but there was a twist as a penalty was awarded at the 84th minute and Mouchili equalized for Fovu Club of Baham, 6 minutes to the end.

Meanwhile, Fauve Azure escaped unscathed from the hands of YAFOOT. Goals from Armand Ngoupeyou and Boris Tchamba at the 5th and 85th minutes meant three points for the 'Faya boys', despite a scare after 16 minutes of play, when Arnold Njachie equalized for YAFOOT. Apejes of Mfou was on standby in group B on match day 1.

In group A, there were victories for Eding Sport, Stade Renard and Colombe. Cotonsport was excused and saw their game against Renaissance FC postponed, due to their involvements in the CAF interclub competition.

Three goals without reply for the men of Anicet Mbarga Foe of Colombe, saw them defeat Aigle 3-0, which turned out to be the most resounding victory of the match day.
Colombe's goals came from; Amine Hiver (12), Junior Ngongang (43) and Rostand Ngangue (81).

Joseph Momasso's 66th minute converted penalty couldn't stop Stade Renard from bagging all three points. Amih Renzoh netted at the 9th minute, and then, Jules Tchio at the 75th minute as it ended 2-1 in favour of Renard.

Last season's vice champions - Eding Sport defeated Avion Academy via a 2-1 margin. A second half brace from Prince Sime at the 61st and 76th minutes won the game for Eding, after Evrad Pajip had brought parity to the contest at the 52nd minute.

Canon and Djiko FC shared spoils (0-0). It was the only game without a goal in the opening day. The next round of matches are scheduled for the weekend, but first, Gazelle play an advanced game against Les Astres on Wednesday, October 19.
