Algeria and Senegal have validated their ticket for the semi-finals of CHAN 2022, by beating respectively Cote d'Ivoire (1-0) and Mauritania (1-0).
The Algerian public went through all the emotions before knowing the deliverance in the last seconds of the first quarterfinal of the CHAN 2022 between their team, Algeria, and Ivory Coast (1-0). In a closed match, it is the hosts who finally had the last word over the Elephants. The decision was made on a penalty stupidly offered in stoppage time (90+5) by an Ivorian defender. Without trembling, Aimen Mahious transformed the spotkick and sent his team to the semi-finals.
Although the outcome was a happy one for Madjid Bougherra's men, the match had started badly for them. They were quickly reduced to 10 men after goalkeeper Alexis Guendouz was sent off in the 20th minute for a handball outside his area. But things will quickly be balanced because, a few minutes later, the referee will show a new red card. This time it was against the Ivorian midfielder Kouassi Attohoula (34th).
Algeria will face in the semi-final, Tuesday, January 31, the winner of the last quarter-final between Niger and Ghana, scheduled for this Saturday 28 at 19 hours (GMT).

Senegal gets the better of its Mauritanian neighbor
In the other quarter-final, it is Senegal which showed superiority over its neighbor, Mauritania (1-0). A penalty converted by Lamine Camara (34th) will have been enough for the local Lions of Teranga. Behind, the men of Pape Thiaw were able to contain the attacks of Mauritanian volunteers who were too clumsy in the opponent's area.
Senegal will face the winner of the third quarter-final between Madagascar and Mozambique in the semi-final this Saturday at 4 pm (GMT).
