Algeria will host the CHAN 2023. Apart from Algeria, the host country, the play-offs were to determine the other qualified teams. It is now done.
The record for the DR Congo
DR Congo easily disposed of Chad in the playoff. The local Leopards won the double confrontation 7-1, including a 5-0 on Sunday. A crushing victory that therefore opens the doors to the CHAN 2023. What allows them to offer a record of participation in the competition. The DRC will indeed play the tournament for the 6th time in its history. What no other country has done, except Uganda.
In addition, the Democratic Republic of Congo has the most victories in the CHAN with two trophies won. The Congolese are tied with Morocco. The last victory of the local Leopards was in 2016.
Morocco for the pass of three, Senegal back
Morocco has won the last two editions of the CHAN (2018, 2020). The Moroccans will defend their title in Algeria. This while they have not even played a playoff since Tunisia decided to abandon.
The CHAN 2023 will also consecrate the return of Senegal. The Teranga Lions are back after 11 years of absence. They had not played the tournament since 2011 (2nd edition in Sudan). To do this, the Senegalese had to over power their bête noire, Guinea, in penalty kicks (5-3) thanks to their goalkeeper Alioune Badara Faty author of the winning penalty.
Premiere for Madagascar
There's a new participant for this 7th edition of the CHAN. It is Madagascar. The Malagasy will play the tournament for the first time in their history. The Bareas A' dismissed Botswana despite a 0-0 draw at home. Nevertheless, they had won 1-0 in the first leg, away from home.
The mission looked difficult for Cameroon. After its 0-1 defeat in the first leg in Equatorial Guinea, the Cameroonian selection A' had to do the extra miles with a 2-0 victory over the Equato-Guineans. The Cameroonians made the difference in the first half thanks to the goals from Kaïba (42nd) and Marou (45th). Another team to pick roll call place in Algeria is Ivory Coast. The Ivorians went to win on penalties in Burkina Faso (5-3). This after two rounds both finished on the score of 0-0.
