FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers: Ghana names squad to face Senegal

Ghana’s U17 women’s national team - Black Maidens

Head coach of Ghana’s Under 17 women’s national team, Baba Nuhu has named a list of 22 players to face Senegal’s young Teranga Lioness in the first leg of the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup India 2022 Qualifiers.

Ghana’s Black Maidens will take on Senegal in Dakar on March 5, 2022.

The list is made up of Fabulous Ladies FC, Princess Owusu, who is  the leading top scorer in the on going 2021/2022 Ghana Women’s Premier League.

Youngsters, Berlene Nyarko and Agnes Yeboah are also part of the team from lower tier sides Mfantsiman Royals and Combined Forces respectively.

The team is scheduled to leave Accra today March 2, 2022 via Air Cotê D’Ivore at 10:00 GMT.

The Black Maidens have been to six World Cup competitions since its inception in 2008 having finished third in Azerbaijan in 2012.

In the 2018 edition, they past hosts Uruguay, Finland and New Zealand to top the group before falling 4-2 on penalties to Mexico in their 2-2 draw in the quarter-finals. Captain of side then, Mukarama Abdullai won  the Golden Boot after finishing as top scorer with seven goals in the competition .

She also won the Adidas Bronze Ball (third best player) behind Spain's Claudia Pina and Nicole Perez of Mexico.
