Cameroon's first division soccer championship is back on track. The 2022-2023 season kicked off last weekend precisely on Saturday in Douala, the country’s economic capital. And for one of the few times in history, it starts on a very good pace.
In the presence of some top football dignitaries, the president of FECAFOOT, Samuel Eto’o gave the kickoff in the opener that saw Union of Douala take on city rivals Astres at the Douala Reunification stadium. Both teams thrilled the crowd which answered present in their numbers. The statistics confirm it: out of the nine games on the program, there are five wins and four draws.
If the public has indeed responded massively in the stadiums, it must be said that lovers of the beautiful game have been served. There was a great show in Douala, Mbouda, Bafoussam and Yaoundé. The proof? No less than 21 goals were recorded. That is an average of 2.3 goals per game. Still, it must continue at this pace throughout the season.
