Football - Rwanda: AS Kigali wins the Super Cup

AS Kigali won the Super Cup of Rwanda against APR FC on Sunday 14 August. The Rwandan army team started the game well and even won a penalty in the 27th minute. Byiringiro Lague took the penalty but it was saved by Ntwari Fiacre, goalkeeper of the team of the Kigali City Council. At the end of regulation time, the score was tied. Even the extra time could not decide between the two teams.

In the penalty shootout, AS Kigali scored five against four for APR FC. This is the third defeat of APR FC against AS Kigali this season.

This brought the Citizens to three consecutive win against APR FC under the former’s head coach Cassa Mbungo Andre who is with the club since April.

The Ferwafa Super Cup is a one-off game held at the beginning of every season and is played between the winners of the Rwanda national League and the national cup known as Peace cup of the previous season.

The coach of AS Kigali André Casa Mbungo savors this success. "This victory is a good thing for the morale of my players. I hope they will take advantage of it to start the championship well".

The 2022-2023 edition of the championship will begin on Friday, August 19, 2022.

AS Kigali has shown its intentions of retaining the domestic league after the team signed eight new players from across the continent, including Cameroonian International forward Man-Yakre.
