In an interview with Marca, Inaki Williams explained his decision to wear the colors of Ghana.
While he was born in Spain and has even played for La Roja, Athletic Bilbao striker Inaki Williams announced a few months ago that he would now represent his native Ghana. The 28-year-old striker is expected to be part of the Black Stars squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar (November 20 to December 18). The Basque striker gave the reasons for his decision in front of the journalists of Marca.
It's something I've been thinking about for many months and I've received help from my family," he said. The president of the Ghanaian federation is the one who insisted most that I be here. Trains only pass once and I took this one, which has more good than bad. The decision was well thought out and consensual with my family."
Now close to 30 years old, Inaki Williams knows that with Ghana he will be able to add international experience to his CV: "Good players travel with their national team. I am 28 years old and this opportunity was not going to be given to me anymore. I will enjoy the moment, my roots and give back to Ghana the chance it gave me. We have appreciated that the next African Cup of Nations will be played in the summer. I will represent the country of my parents, where I feel very loved. I have to give back the joy they had for me to go to the national team. I'm going to enjoy it athletically and personally. The trip I made to Ghana helped me a lot to make this decision and I will not regret it."
