The Kenyan soccer federation has sanctioned 15 people for match-fixing. A decision to show that it does not trifle with these practices.
Kenya has decided to strike hard. After allegations of match-fixing, the Kenya Football Federation (FKF) has decided to investigate. The latter has delivered its verdict. Thus, 15 persons have been suspended by the Federation. In the lot, we find two coaches, but especially 13 players. Among them, Isaac Kipyegon who plays for Tusker FC, defending champion.
To carry out its investigations, the FKF has relied on discretion. There were confidential reports that corroborated the guilt of some of the players in Kenyan soccer who were under suspicion. "In an effort to protect the integrity of the league, in line with the federation's zero tolerance policy on match-fixing, the federation has, with immediate effect, provisionally suspended the following individuals pending investigations into the matter by Fifa and the FKF integrity department," said Barry Otieno, FKF secretary general, in a statement carried by BBC Sport Africa.
Otieno then continues. "All members of the FKF are advised to avoid any form of sporting contact with the above-mentioned individuals during their period of suspension. It should also be noted that this is not the first time that soccer match-fixing has raged in Kenya. In 2020, four players were suspended for life by the FKF for involvement in an "international conspiracy" to fix league matches. There were also five referees who went down.
