NWFL Premiership Wrap: Bayelsa held by Heartland, Edo Queens stun Robo Queens

Bayelsa Queens slip at home

The Nigeria Women's Football League (NWFL) Premiership continued in bright note on Wednesday 14th December 2022 as defending champions Bayelsa Queens were held by Heartland Queens to goalless draw in Yenagoa.

The opening two Matchday fixtures, surprising results, with 13 goals scored with four home wins and one away win plus a draw. Title holders Bayelsa missed the chance to extend their fine start to the season, on home ground against struggling Heartland Queens following an impressive 2-0 opening day win at home against Rivers Angels.

10-woman Owerri Landladies put an impressive display to gain their first point of the season off the 2022 CAF Women’s Champions League bronze medalist in the most shocking result of the week at Samson Siasia Stadium.

While Asaba, the local derby at the Township Stadium saw Delta Queens trash Deltan rivals Royal Queens 3-0. Fehintola Mabokanje's superb finish from the spot gave the host the early edge over their Warri counterparts before  Mercy Omokwo ensure a comfortable triumph with her first brace of the season.
Elsewhere, Nasarawa Amazons recorded the biggest victory of the week after they pummeled Ibom Angels 4-0 with Dooshima Tarnum’s brace along with a goal each from Winifred Eyebhoria and Amarachi Okoronkwo in Markudi.
The big win ensured Christopher Danjuma's  Lafia-based side maintain their unbeaten start to the season as they climb to the top of Group B with seven points from three matches so far this season.
At the FIFA Goal Project, Lagos, Edo Queens claimed their first away win of the season as they beat FC Robo Queens 2-1. Ajimuda Rebecca opened the scoring for the Benin ladies as early as two minutes into the match but  Nigeria U17 striker Opeyemi Ajakaye leveled matters five minutes later in the tensely contested match.
With 17 minutes left in regulation time, Yemisi Samuel scored the game-winner for the Benin City-based side as the visitors condemned their hosts to a winless streak in three matches in continuing their campaign revival.
Also in Fufore, Adamawa Queens maintained their perfect hundred percent record at home as they defeated Confluence Queens 11-0 at the Atiku Abubakar Stadium in Fufore, Adamawa State.
Sofiat Sotunde’s first-half strike saw the Lokoja-based side suffer their second defeat of the season.
In Abuja, Naija Ratels FC bounced back to winning ways from their 1-0 defeat at Royal Queens last week as they secured a 3-0 triumph over Osun Babes at the Old Parade Ground, Area 10.
Blessing Emmanuel netted a brace and Agama Ziperekefeghe increased her season goal tally to three as the Abuja-based side cruised to a big win over their Osogbo counterparts in style.
