Matchday eight marked the return of the Nigeria Women's Football League Premiership with exciting midweek results, with Nasarawa Amazons and Robo Queens celebrating their first away wins of the season.
The enterprising season campaign continued with two away wins, two home wins, and two draws after Nasarawa and Robo stunning displays away from home in Aba and Yola respectively this week.
Nasarawa Amazons resumed their campaign with an away win, as the team defeated Abia Angels 2-1 at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba. New signing Dominance Odubanjo handed the visitors a first half lead courtesy of her 35th minute strike.
After the restart, Christopher Danjuma's side sought to consolidate on their lead until the breakthrough came when Josephine Matthias doubled the advantage for the Solid Miners in the 65th minute.
Abia, however, launched a late fightback in the encounter and were rewarded with a goal off the boots of Nmesoma Ibe 10 minutes from time and her effort was not enough to earn the a point against their visitors from Lafia.
The victory saw Nasarawa go top of the NWFL Group B standings, with 13 points from seven matches - one above second placed Edo Queens, with a game in hand.
In Yola, Robo Queens defeated Adamawa Queens 2-1 to confirm their double over their Northern rivals at the Adamawa Township Stadium. Esther Onyenezide gave Robo Queens the crucial lead early in the first half before she notched the second in the second half to guarantee their win despite a late effort from Nneka Joy for the hosts.
The result saw Robo climbed up to fourth following their third win of the season, with 10 points from six matches, while Adamawa Queens are sixth with nine points from similar number of games.
At the Osogbo Township Stadium, Osun Babes ended their winless streak after defeating Heartland Queens 2-0 to end their three-match unbeaten run in Osogbo.
First half strike from Rebecca Omodele and late strike from Bolaji Olamide were all the Osun ladies required to relaunch their campaign on a positive note and bounce back from their winless form in the first stanza. The win takes Osun off the bottom of the table to sixth position with six points from seven games, while Heartland are fourth with eight points from same matches.
In Port Harcourt, Rivers Angels crumbled again at home as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Royal Queens at the University of Port Harcourt stadium. Juanita Aguadze netted eight minutes from the break to hand the hosts the crucial lead but Azeezat Obadu profited from the defensive error to net at the death to snatch a point for the visitors.
Despite the draw, Rivers remain in third position on Group A standings with 10points - two behind holders Bayelsa Queens and seven adrift of Delta Queens respectively.
Meanwhile, the biggest match of the round saw Delta Queens played out a 1-1 draw with Bayelsa Queens at the Asaba Township Stadium. Mercy Omokwo gave the Group A leaders the lead as early as 18th minute of the game.
Etim Edidiong, however, netted in the second half to rescue the Cup holders from defeat in matchday eight. The draw means nothing is unchanged as Delta hold the lead with 17 points, while Bayelsa are second with 12.
