Qatar 2022 - Cameroon: FC Nantes coach Kombouare console's Ignatius Ganago

The list of 26 players for the Qatar World Cup published by Rigobert Song has been producing mixed reactions not just from Cameroonians around the globe but also from some football coaches and observers. The case of young attacker Ignatius Ganago who plays for FC Nantes in France is one of of many.

Absent from Rigobert Song's list for the World Cup in Qatar, Ignatius Ganago saw his dream of shining at the World Cup with Cameroon go up in smoke. "I am a young footballer but honestly, it is my dream to make the World Cup. From my side, I will do everything possible not to give excuses to the coach for not calling me," said the FC Nantes striker.

Faced with the disappointment of the Cameroonian and that of Alban Lafont (absent from the list of France), the Nantes coach, Antoine Kombouaré, tried to find words to console them.

"I spoke with them with the idea of making them understand that we must quickly digest the disappointment. Today we are 16th. We would be in the top half of the table, you would think we could put them down. But the best way to make them forget about it is to play. Everyone wants to play and move forward by meeting with friends,"
explained the coach of the Canaries.

Ganago was selected for Cameroon during the AFCON hosted in Cameroon but the attacker was hardly used throughout the competition. This season he has scored a couple of goals for his new employers following a good trail from FC Lens.
