Jean Guy Blaise Mayolas, the only candidate for his own succession, was re-elected on Friday, September 2, as president of the Congolese Federation of Football (FECOFOOT). But if his first election had passed like a letter in the post four years ago in Madingou (some 350 kilometers from Brazzaville), the re-election will have been a bit tumultuous.
Scheduled for 10 am (9 am GMT), in the conference room of the Hotel Kintele, in the northern suburbs of the capital, it was finally at 6 pm that the elective general assembly opened. A delay caused by the Ministry of Youth and Sports which had cancelled the event the day before.
The Federation did not let it happen. On the contrary, it has made the round back and even defied the ministry. "No to the interference of the Ministry of Sports in the extraordinary general assembly elective," could be read on signs carried by delegates from all twelve regions of the country. The arm wrestling was then avoided after four hours of conciliation between the Feds and the Ministry of Sports.
The parties agreed on many points such as "the improvement of governance", "the modification of the statutes" and "the modification of the electoral code".
