South Africa - DSTV PSL: Chiefs suffer as Pirates bounce back

League games in the DSTV Premier Soccer League in South Africa were played over the weekend with contrasting results at both ends of the standings.

Hostilities kicked off last Friday when Amazulu showed no mercy on Kaizer Chiefs beating them 4-0. Bonginkosi Ntuli 92', Sede Junior Dion 45', Ramahlwe Mphahlele 37', Dumisani Zuma 14' got their team rolling as they now are just three points away from their opponents of the day Pirates. Amazulu is 6th with the victory, registering 21 points in 16 games now played. Chiefs are 4th with 24 points.

On Saturday, Richards Bay did not lose sight on leaders Sundowns as they beat Marumo Gallants 2-0 on the road.
The visitors had seen most efforts shelved off by Gallants until less than 10 minutes to the end of the game. The homeside's backline cracked. Sanele Barns 80', Tshepo Mabua 86' scored two late goals to bring the new boys to 29 points and second on the log. For the home side Marumo Gallant, it is gliding from bad to worse as they have just 14 points at the tail of the log in 17 games played.

Orlando Pirates bounced back to winning ways after haven dropped all possible points in their last five games.
Their victim was Golden Arrows.

Velemseni Ndwandwe 68', equalized for the visitors after Monnapule Saleng 28 put the home side ahead in the first half. The game looked settled for a draw until late nervousness led to two goals in added time.

Terrence Dzvukamanja 92' and Vincent Pule 94' secured all three points for Pirates who are 5th on the log while Arrows are 12th.

A mid table class saw Chippa United and Cape Town City share the spoils. 1-1 at full time.

Stellenbosch lost at home to Sekhukhune United 1-0. Chibuike Ohizu 34' scored the lone goal for the visitors.

Swallows and TS Galaxy also played a goalless draw while the result of the day was recorded by strugglers Maritzburg United.

The bottom side recorded their second win in a bounce when they beat Royal AM 3-1 on Sunday. Amadou Soukouna 34' 45' put the homeside ahead before Friday Samu 91' made it three and more comfortable. The visitors Royal AM got a late consolation through Mfundo Thikazi 98'. Fresh from beating bottom side Gallants 1-0 in the previous match day, Maritzburg United can hope of an narrow escape from the relegation zone as they now total 17 points on 15th spot. A win in their next game could propel them to 20 points and 10th spot.
