South Sudan sack coaches ahead of AFCON U-20

The South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) has sacked the two coaches who guided the team to qualify for the U-20 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023.

In a letter dated January 11th, 2023 and signed by SSFA’s Secretary General Victor Lawrence Lual, it was communicated that the head coach Charles John Guit and his assistant Deng Abukalam Bak have been relieved of their positions.

“I would like to bring to your attention that the SSFA Board of directors in it’s meeting on January 9th, 2023 chaired by the SSFA President deliberated on the report of the U-20 team to Sudan and resolved to relieve the coach from his post effectively,” said the letter sent to each of the coaches.

The Football Association went ahead to thank the two coaches for leading the team to historical qualification to the U-20 AFCON to take place in Egypt.

Although the Association didn’t mention why the two coaches were sacked, insiders say the coaches lack the CAF B coaching licenses required by the African Football body for all coaches who will be in-charge of teams at the U-20 AFCON.

Stefano Cusin, the national senior team coach of South Sudan is expected to step in to handle the team during the U-20 AFCON slated for February 19th to March 11th in Egypt.

The South Sudan team will play alongside Uganda, Central African Republic and Congo Brazzaville in Group B in the U-20 AFCON slated for February 19th to March 11th in Egypt.
