Young Africans SC have stretched their lead to nine points after a hard fought 1-0 win against Ihefu FC in a 2022/2023 NBC Tanzania Premier League match played on Monday.
Playing a highly defensive approach, the Ihefu side frustrated most of the attacks by the Young Africans, but after 64 minutes the leading scorer in the League Fiston Mayele netted the lone goal at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
“I am happy to score that important goal for my team. We need to keep working hard ahead of more games to come,” said Young African’s striker from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The win takes Young Africans SC to 53 points from 20 matches played, while their rivals Simba SC who face Mbeya City FC are second on the log with 44 points.
After failing to make the quarter final stage at the Mapinduzi Cup in Zanzibar over a week ago, the Young Africans team returned to Dar es Salaam to prepare, while Simba SC traveled to Dubai, UAE for a few days of camping where they also played two friendly matches.
In the other match played on Monday third placed Azam FC stopped Tanzania Prisons Fc 3-0 in a match played at the Azam Complex in Chamazi.
An own goal by Jonas Amos gave Azam FC the lead after 5 minutes. After recess Abdul Sopu and Kipre Junior netted two more goals to make sure Azam FC picked maximum points and moved to 43 points from 20 matches played.
