Tanzania Premier League: Simba SC falter against Mbeya City FC

Simba Sports Club have dropped two points after a 1-1 away draw to Mbeya City FC in a 2022/2023 Tanzania Premier League match played at the Sokoine Stadium on Wednesday.

Fresh from beating Ruvu Shooting FC 4-0 a few days ago, Simba SC failed to find their touch against a well organized Mbeya City side coached by former Ugandan international Abudallah Mubiru.

Yassin Mzamiru gave Simba SC the lead after 15 minutes, but the home side held on to level matters after 79 minutes through Tariq Seif.

The Simba SC team handled by interim coach Juma Mgunda tried to push forward to get a winning goat, but failed to beat the well organized Mbeya City defending line.

“We played against a well organized side, although we had chances to score more goals,” said Mgunda who guided Simba SC to qualification for the group stage of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League last month.

In another match played on Wednesday, Singida Big Stars defeated visiting KMC FC 1-0. Rwandan international and former Simba SC striker Meddie Kagere netted the lone goal in the 44th minute.

The reigning Champions Young Africans SC who defeated Dodoma Jiji FC 2-0 on Tuesday remain top of the log with 29 points from 11 matches played. Azam FC are second on the table with the same number of points with Young Africans SC, but with a lower goal difference and 13 matches played.

Simba SC who have now played 13 matches are third on the log with 28 points, while Singida Big Stars FC moved to 4th place with 21 points.
