Tanzania Premier League: Young Africans beat Mtibwa Sugar to go top

Fresh from registering a big win in the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League, Young Africans SC picked a win in a NBC Tanzania Premier League match played on Tuesday to go top of the log.

The reigning champions stopped Mtibwa Sugar 3-0 in a match played at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

Congolese defender Djuma Shaani netted the opening goal after 33 minutes, before in-form striker Fiston Kalala Mayele made it 2-0 after 38 minutes.

Mayele, Young Africans SC’s leading scorer last season netted a hattrick in their 4-0 win against South Sudan’s Zalan FC in a TotalEnergies CAF Champions League first leg tie of the preliminary round.

In the second half the Mtibwa Sugar Fc team reorganized their team, but still failed to find the goals. Burkinabe midfielder Stephane Aziz Ki netted Young Africans SC’s third goal at the stroke of full time.

In another League match played on Tuesday Azam FC stopped Ruvu 1-0 with Relliant Lusajo netting the lone goal.

After four matches played, Young Africans SC are now top of the log with 10 points, while Azam FC are second with two points less.

On Wednesday Simba SC could reclaim top spot if they beat Prisons FC in a match to be played at the Sokoine Stadium.
