Ons Jabeur will play in the WTA Finals for the first time in her career. And the Tunisian has big goals for this last tournament of the season.
The season certainly did not start on a promising note for Ons Jabeur, who had withdrawn from the Australian Open due to a back injury. Once healed, the Tunisian has made a meteoric rise. Despite losing two finals at the US Open and Wimbledon, the world's No. 2 player has won three titles including a Master 1000.
The 28-year-old reveals the secrets of her success. "I think the highlight of my season is just being consistent. I didn't just have one or two tournaments, I was consistent. I was pushing myself to do better, especially with my results on clay. It's amazing, challenging myself out there and being able to do that was really, really big for me," Jabeur told WTA Insider
"I can't wait to play in front of the fans in Texas."
With these performances, Ons Jabeur has risen to the second place in the perking order behind Iga Swiatek. The best African player will thus play the WTA Finals for the first time in her career. This tournament brings together the eight best players of the season in Fort Worth, Texas from October 31 to November 7.
Last year, Jabeur was beaten by Anett Kontaveit. This year, the Rome Masters 1000 finalist is not going to miss out. "The WTA Finals are a big deal for me. It's like a mini Grand Slam, I call it. I've always dreamed of playing this one," Jabeur said after the US Open. She added: "I've been preparing a lot for this one. I can't wait to play in front of the fans in Texas. I did a little preseason before this tournament, so hopefully I'm ready for this."
Ons Jabeur was announced for the WTA 1000 in Guadalajara but did not make it to Mexico. She has not played since the Jasmine Open in Monastir where she stopped in the quarterfinals. In Texas, the Tunisian will meet Iga Swiatek (No. 1), Jessica Pegula (No. 3), Coco Gauff (No. 4), Maria Sakkari (No. 5), Caroline Garcia (No. 6), Aryna Sabalenka (No. 7) and Daria Kasatkina (No. 8).
