Shock of this 2nd day of the group stage of the Champions League, Bayern vs Barça held all its promises, with as often in these last years a victory for the Bavarians (2-0). Liverpool, which had been struggling at the beginning of the season after a crushing defeat against Napoli (4-1), relied on Salah and Matip to pull off an important victory against a good Ajax team (2-1). The Reds are back in Group A.
Bayern Munich knows the recipe against Barcelona. And even without Lewandowski, who left this summer to join the same opponent of this 2nd day of the Champions League group stage, the Bavarians have once again inflicted a defeat on the Spaniards (2-0).
Undefeated since the beginning of the season, the Catalans started the game on a good note. With a very compact block and a radiant Pedri in the midfield, the teammates of Ousmane Dembélé made a good first half. However, they lacked lucidity in the last move, as Pedri (8') and Lewandowski (21') missed great chances.
The Bavarians woke up in the second half to put the Barcelona defense in trouble. More forward and more incisive, the Germans even surprised the Spaniards. From a well-struck corner, Lucas Hernandez cut inside at the near post with a fine header and fired past Ter Stegen (51'). Liberated by this goal, the hosts maintain the pressure and made the break 4 minutes later after a beautiful combination between Mazraroui, Musiela and Leroy Sané at the finish (54').
With this second victory in two days, Bayern is more than ever leader of the group C with 6 points ahead of Barça, second (3 points). Winner of Viktoria Plzen earlier, Inter takes the 3rd place.
Liverpool saved by Salah and Matip
Liverpool had to be patient before launching their European campaign. After the heavy defeat against Napoli in the first day of the Champions League group stage, the Reds thought they had to be held in check in front of their fans by Ajax Amsterdam, before finally winning (2-1).
Although they were in the lead thanks to a goal from Mohamed Salah (17th), Jürgen Klopp's men conceded the equalizer 10 minutes later on a goal from Ghanaian Mohammed Kudus (27th). And just as the two teams seemed to be heading towards a draw, Joel Matip from Cameroon scored the winning goal (89th). With this win, the English team scores their first three points and is back in Group A, while waiting for the game between Rangers and Napoli.
Zero points for Marseille after two games
Olympique de Marseille can't do it. Already beaten in the first day of the group stage of the Champions League, Marseille lost again this Tuesday at home to Eintracht Frankfurt (1-0). Igor Tudor's men, with Eric Bailly as a starter and Amine Harit and Pape Gueye as substitutes at kick-off, conceded the only goal of the game shortly before half-time with a strike from Jesper Lindstrom (43rd). With this setback, OM remains last in Group D without a single point, behind the Germans and Tottenham, who fell heavily on the ground of Sporting (3-0).
