Uganda Premier League: KCCA FC beat Busoga Utd to extend lead

Coach Morley Byekwaso’s KCCA FC have extended their lead in the 2022/2023 StarTimes Uganda Premier League to five points after registering a win on Friday.

KCCA FC picked a hard fought 2-1 victory against Busoga United FC in a match played at their Philip Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.

Julius Poloto gave KCCA FC the lead from the spot after 20 minutes when Shaban Muhamad had been brought down. But Laban Tibiita leveled matters after 14 minutes.

In the second half the two teams created scoring chances, but it was KCCA FC’s Congolese striker Simon Kankonde Tshinsungu who unleashed a hard shot to make it 2-1 for the hosts after 78 minutes.

“This was a very tough match because we played against a very defensive team. But I am happy that the players put lots of pressure in the second half and scored the second goal,” said KCCA FC’s coach Byekwaso after the match.

The win sends KCCA FC to 29 points from 13 matches played before second placed Vipers SC with 24 points will battle third placed Bidco FC on Saturday.

In another match played on Friday Maroons FC battled to a 1-1 draw against Express FC. The two goals came in the last two minutes with Ivan Mayanja giving Express Fc the lead after 90 minutes, while Fred Amaku made it 1-1 in the extra one minute added. The Red Eagles Express FC moved to 9th place with 16 points, while Maroons FC is placed 10th with 15 points.

Blacks Power FC also settled for a 1-1 draw against struggling Onduparaka FC. Michael Siwu gave the home side Blacks Power FC the lead after 25 minutes, but the Arua based team leveled matters through David Abonga after 52 minutes.
