Women's World Cup Playoffs: Senegal falls heavily as Cameroon closes on to the goal

The Senegalese women's national team lost heavily to Haiti (4-0) in the playoffs for the 2023 Women's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. The Lionesses are thus eliminated.

The Senegalese women's national team will not see the 2023 Women's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand (20 July-20 August). The Lionesses of Teranga took a soccer lesson against Haiti in the night of Friday to Saturday in the playoffs of the Women's World Cup. They were severely beaten by the Haitians (4-0) and are thus eliminated.

A little tetanized by the stakes of the game, the girls of Mame Moussa Cissé have completely missed their subject against Haitians who did not ask for time. After having resisted as well as possible to the opposing offensives, they end up cracking at the end of the first period on a corner (1-0).

The second period will be a total wreck for the Lionesses. With a defense at bay, the goals are raining in the cages of Tenning Sène. Nérilia Mondésir (54th), then Roselord Borgella (64th and 65th) brings the score to 4-0 and bury definitively the hopes of Senegalese.

Cameroon relies on Gabrielle Onguene
Contrary to Senegal eliminated by Haiti (4-0) in the night of Friday to Saturday, Cameroon has ensured its first game of the playoffs of the Women's World Cup 2023 in Australia and New Zealand. The Indomitable Lionesses took the best on Thailand (2-0) on Saturday, February 18. And can continue to dream of a qualification. They will face Portugal in a final match to hope to join Morocco, South Africa, Zambia and Nigeria already qualified.

The mission has not been easy. Faced with a solid but not brilliant Thai team, the Cameroonians had to fight until the end to win. Indeed, it took until the 79th minute to see the game unlocked on a goal of Gabrielle Onguene (33 years). The CSKA Moscow striker came on five minutes earlier and doubled the score in the 82nd minute. Cameroon will face Portugal for its next and last game of the playoffs.
