Woe betide the loser on day 2 of the 2022 World Cup between Senegal and Qatar. These two were beaten in their opening games of the competition, so there is no room for error.
Group A is currently led by the Netherlands and Ecuador with 3 points each, followed by Senegal and Qatar with no point registered.
Senegal was beaten by the Oranje of Holland after having shown great things. The Teranga Lions hassled the Dutch for a better part of the game but were no where near decisive enough.
The experience and talent of the Netherlands paid off, and they managed to make the difference at the end of the match to finally win 2-0 courtesy goals from Cody Gakpo at the 84th minute and Davy Klaassen in borrowed time (99 minute).
There is still hope for the rest of the teams in group A including Senegal. In their second game in the competition, Senegal logs horns with hosts Qatar, who are unfamiliar opponents.
Automatically qualified as the host country, Qatar lost 0-2 in front of its home crowd against Ecuador following a double from Enner Valencia.
In their opening match of the 2022 World Cup, Qatar had a miserable attacking record of 5 shots but none was on target.
The Teranga Lions are tipped by bookmakers to go ahead and record a win, but Qatar could make really tricky opponents. Whatever happens, the losers are a step out of the competition.
The Qatar – Senegal World Cup match kicks off at 2 p.m. local time at the Al Thumama Stadium.
