Uganda will host the 2022 Rugby Africa Men’s 7s tournament slated for April 23-24th at the Kyadondo Rugby ground in Kampala, Uganda.
The tournament will double not only as a qualifier to the Rugby World Cup Sevens 2022 in South Africa, but also the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England.
According to Rugby Africa, all the three medalists will qualify for a ticket to Cape Town for the World Cup slated for September 9-11 at the Cape Town Stadium, while only the finalists will secure slots to Birmingham for the Commonwealth Games.
Ramzy Olinga, the Chief Executive Officer of the Uganda Rugby Union (URU) told Sports News Africa on Wednesday afternoon that the national teams of Mauritius, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Tunisia and Ghana have already arrived in the country.
Uganda’s head coach Tolbert Onyango also announced his final 12 players who will be part of the squad.
“We have prepared well and the 12 players I have finally selected have proved that they will be able to perform on the field,” said Onyango.
Uganda Rugby Cranes will open their campaign with a first round match against Burundi. The other teams taking part in the qualifier include; Kenya, Senegal, Zimbabwe, Burkina Faso, Madagascar, Botswana, Namibia, Ghana, Zambia, Cameroon, Tunisia and Mauritius.
