2021 AFCON: Have faith, we will qualify-Ghana captain Ayew

Ghana captain- Andrew Ayew

Ghana captain, Andre Ayew expressed optimism of victory against Comoros in their final group C to book qualification to the next stage of the on going 2021 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Cameroon despite 1-1 draw with Gabon on Friday evening.

The Ghanaians were expected to revive their round 16 hopes with a victory over the Panthers but failed to protect their 1-0 lead courtesy Ayew in the first half.

Gabon levelled two minutes from time through Jim Allevinah as the four-time African Champions remained winless in the competition.

Ayew insists his side has what it takes to beat Comoros in their final group game to qualify despite picking just a point out of a possible six points.

We are Ghana, we are going to win the last game and go through,” Ayew said at the Post-Match conference.

Commenting on the incident that resulted in Gabon’s goal, Andre said .
We had the ball out, because our man was on the floor, we expected them to give us back the ball but they went on to score. I am very disappointed in Gabon.”

This results means Gabon occupy second position with four points behind Morocco who has already advanced to the round 16 with six points whiles Ghana sit at the third position on the table with a point and Comoros pointless at the bottom side respectively in Group C.

Andre Ayew was honoured as the Man Of The Match.

Ghana will have to beat debutants Comoros in the last group game to secure a place in the next stage of the competition whiles Gabon takes on Morocco on Tuesday, 18th January, 2021.
