Djamel Belmadi and the Algerian Football Federation have defined a tailor-made schedule for the preparation of the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon. The program includes two friendly matches on 1 and 5 January 2022 before taking off to Cameroon on 7 January.
Djamel Belmadi and Algeria are already looking ahead to the 2021 African Cup of Nations in Cameroon (9 January - 6 February). The coach of the Greens and his staff have almost finished planning their training camp program in preparation for the competition. And the least we can say is that their calendar is well filled. The reigning African champions will first travel to Doha, Qatar, on 27 December, in accordance with the schedule defined by Djamel Belmadi in collaboration with the Algerian Football Federation.
The Fennecs will stay in Doha for eleven days. During this training camp, Riyad Mahrez and his teammates will then play two friendly matches, on 1 and 5 January 2022. They will face Gael Kakuta's DR Congo in the first of these. The Red Devils, ranked twelfth in Africa in the FIFA rankings, will be a tough opponent for Algeria.
Algeria enters the competition on 11 January
For the second match, Djamel Belmadi and the FAF are still looking for a sparring partner. However, according to the Algerian website La Gazette des Fennecs, this other sparring partner could well be Ghana.
The Algerians' training camp in Doha will end on 7 January, the date of their departure for Cameroon. Djamel Belmadi and his protégés will finally have three days to fine-tune their preparation before their opening match against Sierra Leone on 11 January.
