AFCON 2021: Four Cameroonian players isolated for Covid-19

Big and unwelcoming news from Cameroon the host country of the 2021 Afcon. The national team has been camping in the nation's capital Yaounde as the country welcomes some of the participating teams like Ethiopia who were the first to touch down in Cameroon. Amidst strict Covid 19 protocols, the spread of the virus still seems unavoidable.

The coronavirus pandemic is already invading the selections qualified for the AFCON 2021. This Thursday, it is around the Cameroon team to record its first cases of Covid-19. Four Indomitable Lions tested positive at the end of the training session this evening. They are Pierre Kunde Malong, Jean Effala Konguep, Michaël Ngadeu and Christian Bassogog.

"They were put under observation for strong suspicion on their arrival on Wednesday, but the Covid-19 infection was confirmed after tests carried out on Thursday. The four players will continue their quarantine away from the group," confirms Serge Guiffo, the Team Press of the Cameroonian selection.

Note that 24 players among the 28 selected by the coach Antonio Conceiçao are already present at the training camp in Yaounde. The four latecomers, namely Vincent Aboubakar, Stephane Bahoken, James Lea Siliki and Jean Onana are expected on Saturday at the latest.

The advent of the pandemic is seriously affecting several national teams to take part in the continental competition. A reserve of 5 more players have been made available for the teams by CAF in case of the need to replace players who are tested positive prior to and even during the competition.

The Super Eagle striker Victor Osimhen has also been reported positive with the virus this Thursday.
