AFCON 2021: Gabon draw and move closer to the last 16

No winner between Ghana and Gabon. The two teams left back to back (1-1). Andre Ayew gave Ghana the lead in the 19th minute. Jim Allevinah equalized in the 88th minute. The Panthers, second in group C, are closer to the last 16.

Gabon are one step closer to the last 16 of the African Cup of Nations. The Panthers drew against the Black Stars of Ghana. Without Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Mario Lemina, Gabon dominated the match especially in the second half. Johann Obiang's team-mates had many chances in the first half but struggled to put the ball in the net.

This lack of realism cost the Gabonese dearly. Andre Ayew opened the scoring with a superb shot (19th). The Gabonese continue to push multiplying the opportunities throughout the match. But the deliverance will come from Jim Allevinah. He snatched the draw at the end of the game (88th). A draw that propels Gabon to second place in group C behind Morocco (6 pts). Ghana (1pt) must beat the Comoros to hope to play in the second round of the competition.

An agitated end to the match
Gabon's equalizer sparked a controversy. The Black Stars have indeed criticized the Gabonese for their lack of fair play. After Daniel Kofi Kyere was injured, Guelor Kanga gave the ball to Allevinah instead of the Black Stars. This was the only way Gabon could get back into the game. This attitude led to a fight at the final whistle. Benjamin Tetteh was shown the red card after punching Aaron Boupendza in the face.
