The 2021 African Cup of Nations has been marked by some incidents. Some of them have been submitted to the CAF Disciplinary Board. The latter met on Saturday 15 January to decide. This is the case of the scuffles of Gabon vs Ghana (1-1). The match was played on Friday 14 January for the second day of Group C.
Accused of having assaulted a Gabonese player, the Ghanaian Benjamin Tetteh took a lot. Indeed, the CAF Disciplinary Board suspended him "for an additional match in addition to his automatic suspension of two matches". As a result, the Black Stars will only have their striker back if they qualify for the semi-finals.
And that is not all for this case. "The disciplinary board also issued a stern warning to both teams for their unsportsmanlike behavior after the final whistle."
Gabon also took a hit, but not for the same matter. The Panthers were sanctioned for not staying at the accommodation provided by the AFCON organization. On January 6, 2022," reads the statement, "Gabon would have gone against the instructions of CAF and would have changed hotel without the authorization of CAF. It was after the safety and security department of CAF refused their request to change hotel. The CAF Disciplinary Board found Gabon guilty and fined them USD 20,000 for failing to comply with CAF directives."
The last case heard was Mali's request to have Bilal Toure's red card cancelled. "The Malian Football Federation challenged the red card given to its player during his match (...) against Tunisia on 12 January 2022 in Limbe. The CAF Disciplinary Board confirmed the referee's decision. As a result, Bilal Touré is suspended for two matches."
