AFCON 2021: Samuel Eto'o give Lions pep talk ahead of knockout phase

The President of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT), Samuel Eto'o, recently visited the Indomitable Lions in their den ahead of the knockout phase of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

After an unbeaten run in the group stage that was the Indomitable Lions recording 7 points in three games, scoring six goals and conceding three, the highest goal scorer in the competition's history Eto'o, had to visit the Lions and let them know that Cameroonians are behind them.

Hear him: "I am a little sad tonight because I don't see you happy. You have just qualified for the next round and first in your group. I came in here but didn't hear any music nor the atmosphere of jubilation. It is not easy to do what you did. You must be happy with what you have done for yourself but especially for the 27 million Cameroonians...You must be proud and happy".

He goes further to urge them to shun complacency as they are now moving into the knockout phase.

" You are no longer in the group stage and each match from now will be a final. Prepare to fight. We will confront every encounter, maybe for 90 minutes or more. Rest well and be happy because if you are happy, we are much happier...tomorrow I am going to pay the first part of your bonuses, that was the deal. Each time we move to the next round, I will pay...," Eto'o said.

The Lions qualified first in Group A with seven points followed by Burkina Faso with four points and Cape Verde with four points. At the bottom of the group is Ethiopia that managed a point against Burkina Faso.

Cameroon and Burkina Faso gained automatic qualification for the 1/16 finals while Cape Verde will hope to qualify as best losers.
