AFCON 2023: Four new candidates for the group phase of the qualifiers

The preliminary round of the AFCON 2023 has delivered its first qualifiers. Four nations have concocted their tickets for the group phase of the qualifiers. They join the 42 teams already qualified.

The preliminary round of the AFCON 2023 delivered its first verdicts this Sunday. The most prolific match was between Mauritius and Sao Tome and Principe. The two teams drew 3-3. A result that qualifies Sao Tome and Principe. The Santomeans had won the first leg with a score of one goal to zero.
South Sudan has also validated its ticket for the next round of qualifying for the AFCON 2023. The South Sudanese beat Djibouti 1-0. A victory that confirms that of the first game, away. South Sudan had won 4-2.

Another easy qualification, that of Eswatini. The Sihlangu Semnikati (King's Shield), took the best on Somalia 2-1. This gives a score of 5 goals to 1 on both matches (3-0 in the first leg).

This preliminary round of the competition had one of the most undecided match between Lesotho and Seychelles. The two teams played a goalless draw on Wednesday, March 23. For the return leg, Lesotho won with a score of 3 goals to 1 and continue the adventure. Note that Botswana has passed this preliminary round of the AFCON 2023 without playing. This following the withdrawal of Eritrea. While Gambia plays its return match this Tuesday, March 29 against Chad. In the first leg, the Scorpions had won by a score of one goal to zero, away.

 

The qualified teams will join the 42 selections exempted from the preliminary round, for the group phase of the 2023 AFCON qualifiers. This phase begins in June.
