AFCON 2023 (Q): Results of Day 4 plus highlights

For the 4th day of the CAN 2023 qualifiers, Cameroon fell to Namibia (2-1), while Egypt swept Malawi (4-0). Equatorial Guinea and Cape Verde were also successful. Find the first results of this Tuesday.

Cameroon sinks before Namibia

It is the surprise of this 4th day of qualification for the CAN 2023. Cameroon fell to Namibia (2-1). Deprived of Eric Maxim Chupo-Moting because of a back injury, the Indomitable Lions had to rectify the situation after the draw against Namibia at home. But the Brave Warriors, in an empty stadium decided to play a dirty trick to the teammates of Vincent Aboubakar. It's again the striker of 4 days ago who is doing it again. Peter Shalulile (55th) opened the score. As the misfortune never comes alone, Absalom Limbondi (79th) on a free kick gives a blow to Rigobert Song and Cameroon.

Disoriented, the Indomitable Lions tried in the last moments to come back in the game. As usual, it is Vincent Aboubakar (91st) who gives hope to his team. An insufficient goal for the Cameroonians who finally lost. Thanks to this success, Namibia (5 pts) takes the lead of group C ahead of Cameroon (4 pts).

Egypt closes in on Guinea

Egypt will have been merciless. Already winners of Malawi during the 3rd day of the CAN 2023 qualifiers, the Pharaohs have done it again this Tuesday against the same opponent during the 4th round, with a large success (4-0). They needed only 20 minutes to definitively fold the case against a Malawi team quickly overtaken and led to the score on the first goal of the game signed Tarek Hamed (4th). Marmoush scored the breakthrough goal just after the quarter-hour mark (16th), before the inevitable Salah scored again (20th). In the second half, Zizo would add to the score (49th) and allow the Egyptians to sign a large victory that allows them to take the lead of the group D. Equal points with Guinea (9), they have a better goal difference, before the last two qualifying rounds, including a match against the Syli.

Equatorial Guinea is getting closer

The Nzalang Nacional is more than ever a candidate to qualify for the CAN 2023. Against Botswana for the fourth day of the qualifiers, Equatorial Guinea won again (3-2) to get three precious points. The Equatoguineans took the lead quickly thanks to Nsué who opened the score after only 13 minutes of play. But the Botswana came back thanks to Elias (38th). The joy was short-lived for them because in the wake, Ditsele scored against his own side and gave a one-goal lead to Nzalang (40th). The lead was increased to two goals after a Balboa goal in the second half (51st). But the game was revived after a penalty for the Zebras, converted by Seakanyeng (65th). Despite the last attacks of Botswana, the score did not change, to the great happiness of Equatorial Guinea, which now has 9 points in this group J and takes the lead provisionally, pending the game between Tunisia and Libya.
