AFCON 2023: Seko Fofana notes imperfections to be corrected before Nigeria

Scorer and Man of the Match, Seko Fofana is delighted with Côte d'Ivoire's start to the 34th edition of the AFCON. But the Ivorian midfielder points to a number of errors that need to be corrected before Thursday's 2nd outing against Nigeria.

Côte d'Ivoire, the host country, did not miss a beat for the opening match of the AFCON 2023. Just after a beautiful opening ceremony, the Elephants defeated the Djurtus of Guinea Bissau (2-0). Seko Fofana opened the scoring in the 4th minute to set the Stade Olympique Alassane-Ouattara free. But the Ivorians then struggled to capitalize on their domination. They even had a few scares on Guinea-Bissau counter-attacks. Krasso then scored the breakthrough goal to secure the 3 points. "It's an enormous pleasure. We've been preparing for this match for a long time. It wasn't an easy day. We've had a lot of adrenalin and little rest. The fact that we won tonight is something very important for us," enthuses Seko Fofana, named "Man of the Match".

Fofana: "Remain humble and correct our mistakes".

A good start for Côte d'Ivoire in Group A of the AFCON 2023, whose second match of the first day takes place this Sunday at 2pm GMT between Equatorial Guinea and Nigeria. The Super Eagles will be the Ivorians' opponents on Thursday at 5pm. For Fofana, the Ivorian team must improve in certain aspects of the game before this encounter."Not everything was perfect in our game (against Guinea Bissau), so much the better I'd like to say, as it will enable us to remain humble and correct the mistakes we made in order to play a great game against Nigeria," points out Al Nassr midfielder Seko Fofana.
