Without surprise Egypt dominated Cape Verde (37-25) in the final of the CAN Handball 2022. The Pharaohs get their 8th crown.
The hierarchy was respected. Egypt made the law in front of its public. For this 25th edition of the African handball Championship, the Pharaohs have achieved a perfect record. No team could resist the fury of the Reds. Not even Tunisia, the most titled nation of the competition, dismissed in the semi-finals.
In the final on Monday evening, it was Cape Verde, a nation that had never finished on the podium, which stood in their way. And the Egyptians did not tremble at all. After 30 minutes of play, they already had a very comfortable advantage (24-12). An advantage that they will keep until the end of the game won 37-25.
With this victory, Egypt gets its 8th crown. Only Tunisia does better. The Tunisians have been on the roof of Africa ten times. But in Cairo, they have missed their competition. For the first time since the 1st edition in 1974, they return without a medal. They have indeed lost to Morocco (24-28), this Monday, in the match for third place. Tunisia is however better than Algeria, another great nation of African handball. The Algerians finish at the 5th place while they have the 3rd biggest prize list of the CAN handball with 7 titles.
For Cape Verde, despite the defeat in the final, this campaign is a real confirmation. The Blue Sharks had indeed finished in 5th place two years ago in Tunisia. And this year, for the first time in their history, they are on the podium. Cape Verde becomes the 10th nation to win a medal in a CAN handball.
