African Leagues: Weekend roundup

While some championships are drawing to a close in several countries on the continent, others are continuing. In Guinea, leaders Horoya AC and Hafia FC are back on top, while in Rwanda, APR FC are crowned champions for the 21st time in their history.

Rwanda - Football (J30): APR FC become Rwandan champions

APR FC claimed the Rwandan title on Sunday 29 May, their fourth in a row. Thanks to goals from Nshuti Innocent and Ruboneka Bosco, the military outfit won their final match (2-1) against Gorilla. It was their 21st trophy in the 30 years of their existence. The joy was immense for the players of this club, which was second on matchday 28.

Kiyovu Sport, who beat Rutsiro 3-1, finished second in the league. Rutsiro, for their part, will play in the second division next season alongside Espoir.

Rayon Sport, who beat Sunrise 1-0 on their own turf, finish third in the 2022-2023 competition. Cameroonian Essomba Willy Léandre Onana, who scored the only goal of the game, is the league's top scorer with 16 goals.

Guinea-League 1 (Matchday 22): Horoya and Hafia secure top spot, Satellite FC sink to the bottom

Matchday 22 of Guinea's Ligue 1 came to a close on Sunday 28 May 2023. After losing the previous round, the leaders and runners-up got back on track.
At the Stade du 28 Septembre in Conakry, Horoya AC returned to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over SOAR Académie. Yakhouba Gnagna Barry gave his team an early lead (5') before Sory Traoré scored the winner for Horoya AC in the 79th minute. Horoya remain top of the table on 42 points. SOAR Academie are in 7th place on 30 points.

Hafia FC, who are aiming to dethrone Horoya AC, are keeping pace with the leaders. Hafia FC, who were beaten on the previous matchday, won 2-0 at home to CI Kamsar to stay in touch with Horoya AC in the title race. The Green and Whites won in the final quarter of an hour thanks to goals from Alhassane Camara 'Iyanga' (77') and Morifing Donzo (86'). Hafia FC remain in touch with Horoya AC and are in second place on 40 points, two points behind leaders Horoya AC.

Milo FC striker Seydouba Bangoura, who scored a hat-trick against Fello Star, leads the scoring charts with 15 goals. He is followed by Saran Mamoudou Kanté (Fello Star) with 14 goals. Naby Bangoura (SOAR Académie) is in third place with 9 goals.

Mali-League 1 (D20): Seventh win in a row for Réal

AS Real continue to lead Ligue 1 in Mali. Thanks to a goal from defender Ismaël Bamba and striker Moussa Koné, the Scorpions beat AFE 2-0 on Saturday 27 May to open matchday 20. It was Nouhoum Diané's side's 7th win in a row in the league, keeping them at arm's length from Djoliba AC.

Les Rouges, who were held to a 0-0 draw by USFAS on the previous matchday, bounced back in the title race with a 2-0 home win over Us Bougouni. Stade Malien, for their part, were away to Kita on Sunday and drew their tenth game of the season against USC Kita (0-0). And Yeleen Olympique suffered their 10th consecutive defeat at the hands of Onze Créateurs de Niarela (2-1).
