Atletics - Budapest World Championships: Kenyan Athletics Board calls for impeccable attitude

Kenya's Ferdinand Omanyala competes in the men's 60 metres heats during The World Athletics Indoor Championships 2022 at the Stark Arena, in Belgrade, on March 19, 2022.

Kenya won 10 medals (2 gold, 5 silver and 3 bronze) at last year's world championships. What's more, over the last 18 editions of the World Championships, Kenya has occupied second place on the medals list, just behind the USA. This makes the Kenyan delegation one of the most eagerly awaited.

The President of Kenyan Athletics, Jackson Tuwei, gave a message of encouragement to the team at the meeting. He called for an irreproachable attitude: "You know that our mantra is zero tolerance to doping. Our legendary athletes have set a record for competitions and victories without fail. You have good examples to follow, including David Rudisha and Milcah Chemos, who raced faultlessly and are now your officials".

To create further emulation the Cabinet Secretary for Sport, Namwamba, raised the issue of raised allowances. "I'd like to let you know that your local and overseas allowances have been revised considerably because we want our athletes to be comfortable both here at home when they're preparing and when they're over there competing".The team, which has been in camp for a month, will travel to Budapest in batches from Monday. The competition runs from August 19 to 27.
