Petro Luanda vs FAPolice is the first game of the semi-finals of the Basketball Africa League. These two teams relied on Carlos Morais (27 pts), Childe Dundão and Daushman Morman (14 pts) to escape the trap of AS Salé and Rwanda Energy Group.
Carlos Morais a cold-blooded killer
Petro Luanda beat AS Salé (102-89), thanks to the performances of two players: Carlos Morais (27 pts, 4 rbds, 4 assists) and Childe Dundão (19 pts, 4 rbds, 5 assists). The Angolan team reached the semi-finals for the second time in a row. Carlos Morais is no longer to be introduced in Africa. The 36 year old back (1m93, 91 kg) has four African championship titles (2005, 2007, 2009 and 2013). He was elected MVP of the 2013 Afrobasket. Morais averages 12 points per game. Against AS Salé, he put up 30 points. He was also supported by Childe Dundão (23).
The 23-year-old point guard started his career in 2016 with Petro Luanda. He knows the high level having played in senior and junior Afrobasket. Dundão has won three Angolan league titles (2019, 2021 and 2022) as well as a national cup in 2022. This duo hurt AS Salé despite the contribution of the trio Amadou Abdoulaye Harouna (20 pts), Terrel De Von Stoglin (19 pts) and Ousmane Drame (19 pts, 13 rbds).
Top scorer of the Basketball Africa League, Terrel De Von Stoglin was unrecognizable. The American point guard was shooting 30 pts per game. He holds the record for most points scored in a game, 41 in his team's 90-96 loss to US Monastir.
Cleveland Jr too lonely
In front of President Paul Kagame and nearly 8,000 Rwandan fans, the Armed Forces and Police cooled off Rwanda Energy Group (66-63) in the quarterfinals. Three players carried the Cameroonian team by scoring more than half of the points. They were Daushman Morman (14 pts, 4 rbds, 3 assists), Joel Almeida (10 pts) and Tyjhai Byers (10 pts, 10 rbds). This trio eclipsed Cleveland's Joseph Thomas Jr, author of 23 pts and 8 rbds. The American point guard was too much alone. He had 38 minutes in the legs. Thomas could not prevent the defeat of his team who insisted too much on outside shots. The Armed Forces and Police will meet in the semi-finals Petro Luanda, this Wednesday.
