At the end of his contract with Real Madrid in June, Walter Tavares is sitting on a mountain of uncertainty regarding his future as a basketball player. Nevertheless, the Cape Verdean pivot continues to remain professional to the end.
He still doesn't know what his future holds at Real Madrid. Walter Tavares is currently swimming in uncertainty. He is still waiting for the invitation card from Real Madrid's directors to discuss a contract renewal. So far, nothing at all. However, this does not alter his performances on the Liga Endesa (Spanish D division). "I need to be as prepared as possible to help the team win titles, and then we'll see," says Tavares.
An emblematic figure at Real Madrid, Walter Tavares arrived at the White House in the 2017-2018 season. Since then, he has made 500 appearances in all competitions for Madrid. With his status as a leader in the squad, the Cape Verdean pivot is tightening his laces and not shying away from his objectives, even if his contractual situation is currently precarious. "My objective is to fight to stay at Real Madrid, but the future is not known. For now, I need to be as prepared as possible to help the team win titles and then we'll see," Tavares insists.
Panathinaikos on the lookout
Real Madrid's directors should press ahead if they still want to keep Tavares in the White House. At the age of 32, perhaps, he no longer symbolizes the future, and it's time to free up places for youngsters from the youth academy. If so, the Greeks from Panathinaikos could be in for a good deal. They are already on the lookout for Tavares. And the rumours of such a move are growing louder in Madrid."We need to finish in the best possible way, prepare for the playoffs. And keep the competitive level as high as possible," says Tavaves, as if to underline his continued focus on the Real project.
Having started his career in Gran Canaria in 2009, Walter Tavares also played for La Palma, Atlanta Haws, Raptors, Cleveland all NBA teams before signing for Real Madrid in 2017.
